Shyam Saran Negi was the first voter to exercise the franchise in Independent India's first elections ever in 1952. Today, 102-year-old, Negi again cast the ballot in his native village Kalpa, Himachal Pradesh. The administration accorded him a red carpet welcome at the polling booth. Earlier Negi had urged the voters to "elect honest and active candidates".
