Govt launches quality audit of National Highways

The road transport ministry has taken a first-of-its kind step to carry out audit of construction quality and safety aspects of completed and under-construction stretches. The ministry has appointed six independent experts to examine different stretches of the flagship Char Dham road project in Uttarakhand. Officials said this system would be institutionalised for the highway sector to ensure that the road projects are at par with the quality parameters set by the government.

BJP slams Cong, says J'khand has become ‘corruption den’

Hitting back at Congress over the arrest of three of its MLAs with a large amount of cash, BJP on Sunday alleged that Jharkhand has become a “den of corruption”. “The entire Congress leadership, be it a big leader or small, is involved in corruption in the state,” BJP spokesperson Syed Zafar Islam alleged.

ED arrests Sanjay Raut, recovers Rs 11.5 lakh from his house

The Enforcement Directorate on Sunday arrested Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut in Mumbai in connection with a land scam case. The action comes hours after the agency conducted raids at his residence. The agency has recovered Rs 11.5 lakh from his premises. During his arrest, Raut said that the 10 lakh rupees seized from his residence belonged to chief minister Eknath Shinde.

Birmingham CWG: Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu wins first gold for India

Chanu lifted a whopping 29 kg more than the second-placed Marie Hanitra Ranaivosoa of Mauritius. Mirabai lifted a total of 201 kg to bag gold in the women's 49kg category– 88 kg in snatch and 113 kg in clean and jerk – to create a new CWG record as well as her own personal best.
