Companies rush to roll out jabs specific to Omicron strain

The vaccines under development globally include Betuvax-CoV-2, Inovio (INO-4800), Valneva (VLA2001), Oravax, Gritstone (GRT-R910), Daiichi Sankyo (DS-5670) and KM Biologics (KD-414). Some of these could be used as boosters or independent vaccines, latest data compiled by Unicef says.

At 27000, new Covid cases jump 22% in a day

On New Year Day, India had reported 27,718 fresh cases by late night with data from two states awaited. This was over 5,000 more than the tally of 22,706 on Friday. Covid infections have exploded this week.

Omicron cases dip, tally stands at 1,540

Rajasthan detected 52 new cases of Omicron, taking the state’s tally to 121. A senior health department official said: “Among the new cases, 38 wer found in Jaipur.” Four of the patients had come in contact with foreign travelers.
